Cagliari-AC Milan
By: Jeremy | October 3rd, 2008You have lost your first five games of the season and are the laughing stock of Serie A so things cant get any worse right? Well if having to play AC Milan is not making things any worse, then we must be in bad shape.
Week six sees Milan, in my opinion the best team in Serie A, come to Sardinia for a night game that will be seen live on Fox Soccer Channel here in the States. The difference in talent in these two teams is not even worth discussing, but when a team can be without players like Boriello, Pirlo, Inzaghi, Nesta, and even Gattuso and still be heavy favorites to win, you know they are really deep or we are really bad. I think its just the typical difference between a big club and a small club. No real analysis necessary.
Cagliaris problems are the same as they have been in previous weeks. They cant score. Acquafresca has not regained the form he ended with last season and that can be explained by youth and inexperience or a bad supporting cast combined with a little bit of arrogance for believing he should be with a better club. Someone needs to step up and score goals as Matri and Larrivey are what they were last year, which was not the answer.
Milan is back on form after beating Inter and even winning their mid week UEFA cup game against Zurich. Getting a team at home after they played a midweek game on the road might give us some hope, but this is such a deep team that it really does not matter.
Cagliari has always played Milan tough at home and you like to think we might steal some points this week. The locals should pack the stadium to see the Milan stars and maybe the crowd will invigorate the team to do well. As bad as we are, when your goal is survival, a win in this game jump starts your season and gets you right back in the relegation race. A loss will continue to put pressure on Cellino to fire Allegri. While Cellino will try to keep Allegri around for as long as possible to justify his faith in him over Ballardini, the losses cant continue to pile up without something being done.
This week adds to the pressure on everyone who has an interest in this team.

Hey congrats on your first point! Making Milan drop points is a reason to celebrate!
Who is that Biondini guy, by the way? Do you know anything about him? He was all over the place, and I think he played pretty well.

Not as bad as you thought eh Jeremy? I believe this team is not as bad as the table shows, and really played hungry last night. Acquafresca did his best Pippo impression and cost you some good chances, but the solid defensive organization should right this ship in no time, and you will get to play Roma soon too, so that should be an easy three!

Thanks for recognizing my boy Biondini MAD. I have touted him forever. He is the perfect fourth midfielder on a good team. He hustles his ass off and if he played with some talent around him might even pop a goal or two. Long one of my favorite Cagliari players.
