Cagliari-Bologna

By: Jeremy | October 31st, 2008

After a tough midweek loss to Genoa, there is a quick turnaround as we get a weekend match against relegation rival Bologna. With both teams near the top of the list of relegation favorites, this is clearly a relegation six pointer with the pressure on Cagliari to win because they are the home team.

Cagliaris confidence is pretty good but still tempered as they lost their first five, but took points in wins over Torino and Chievo, teams they need to beat to stay out of the bottom three. While we have not shown the ability to win teams that arent considered for relegation, we are playing well enough to where we might avoid relegation if we can continue to show results against teams like Bologna, especially at home.

Bologna has struggled of late and cant score goals. While they are on six points, one behind Cagliari, their recent play has to be of concern for them and they are looking like serious threats for releagtion, not unexpected for a newly promoted club. In the same sense, relegation is so tight, that a win on the road against a relegation rival can inspire future results. As you see by the weekly results, relegation will be between a lot of teams and come down to the last couple of weeks.

Cagliari will be without Michele Fini, who has played pretty well of late, because of his red card against Genoa and former Cagliari man Davide Marchini will miss the game for Bologna which is a shame as he is solid but not spectacular talent who was liked in Sardinia.

With Bolognas recent inability to score goals, combined with Cagliaris better play at home, this would be a bad loss for us. These are the games we must win and recent results against Torino and Chievo dont give me any reason to think we wont win this game. With Catania on the road and Fiorentina at home in the next two matches, neither of which are expected to generate points, three this weekend are vital and the boys know that and will play accordingly.

Look for a couple of goals from Acquafresca this weekend and a pretty solid win.

Cagliari 2-0 Bologna

5-1! And our boy Acquafresca got himself a brace! That puts you guys at 15… above Roma! That’s what I like to see.

I gotta man up here. I was wrong and you were oh so right. Now I will get back to my horrible humiliation.

Any way congratulations on the win, you gave us the club foot today.
