Cagliari(mini) adding talent

By: Jeremy | January 9th, 2008

In their attempt to move up the table, the Rossoblu have signed the Brazilian Jeda, who alone has scored more goals for Serie B side Rimini this year then the entire Cagliari team, as well as Levante backup goalie Marco Storari.

Jeda follows in the footsteps of former Rimini teammate Alessandro Matri. To put it plain and simple, Matri is Serie B level talent and Jeda has been playing in Serie B for the same club so I am not sure if this is really a big upgrade. Maybe Jeda couldnt be had when management was getting Matri, but I guess Cellino is covering all his bases now and has the entire Rimini strikeforce from 06-07. Jeda signed a contract until 2011 so he may be the answer in 2008-09 to get the team back to Serie A as he can clearly fill up the nets in Serie B. Whether its Larrivey or Matri that he replaces I dont care as one needs to go, but my concern is that with other teams trying to get Acquafresca, it may be a signal a deal is close for him in exchange for quite a bit of young talent from co owners Inter and whichever club wants to get him. Jeda cant be worse then Matri so this is a good start to January.

I like Fortin so Storari is not an upgrade at all and he was clearly not their first goalie target. Storari couldnt even crack the lineup for Levante, bottom dwellers in La Liga, so AC Milan took him back from Spain and loaned him to Cagliari for giggles. I say put California High School stud David Bingham in the nets. I dont like Fortins recent replacement Mourrocco so if Storari takes over for him because Fortin is banished, it is a good move. Then again, if he was really a decent goalie, he would be replacing Dida.

Expecting Cagliari to bring in name players in January is really unrealistic. The big clubs simply snap up the transfers they want first. Therefore, the fact some new blood is coming is good. You always have to look positively at any Brazilian coming to your team who can clearly score. If Jeda can be paired with Acquafresca and a midfielder can be added who works and Foggia is kept, then it will be a successful January. Bring on Udinese!!

I think Jeda can do well at Cagliari. Followed him since he played for Palermo, and he has had some great Serie B-seasons.

Man, Bingham’s not even in town yet, let the kid train for a few days before you throw him in there! (:
