Focus on what matters
By: Jeremy | December 23rd, 2007During a period of turmoil, it was unrealistic to expect any kind of result in Florence. There is really nothing to analyze when the opposing team simply has too much talent. Even after a quick response to the opening goal by Fiorentina, the end of the first half was dreadful. The team didnt seem to quit in the second half, but they were really lucky not to lose by more then four goals. Foggia played a half. Thats a start. We need to keep him until the summer to realistically compete. At this point, I dont care if his heart is in Napoli.
With two games left in the first half, the team is only five points from safety. That may seem pathetic to you non relegation followers, but with the right moves and a change in fortune, the season can still be saved. The Rossoblu must finish ahead of three of the following teams: Reggina with 13 points, Siena with 14 points, Empoli with 15 points, and Livorno with 15 points. I think Siena and Reggina are going down and Empoli or Livorno, Im not sure which one, will continue to play at the level they are playing. Safety is within reach but there must soon be an increase in the talent level or we will be with Reggina and Siena in Serie B next year.
I dont really know who is a potential January transfer target, but the talent brought in will determine if there is a realistic chance of survival. Once the winter break is over, I will focus more on where we are compared to other relegation strugglers. I hope there are some additions so I can actually get enthusiastic about games other then home games against bottom level clubs. Week 19 against Reggina will be a key matchup and I am glad we will be playing them in week 38 at home when three points may save our season. But then again, by that time if not sooner, we could be this years Ascoli so a week 38 game might be meaningless.
Merry Christmas to everyone, even you Inter fans.
