Forget this loss and check out some other Cagliari websites

Heading into the midweek game against a side like Genoa, who at home is pretty strong, getting points cannot be expected. While Cagliari has clearly improved and played a great game on the road against them, the bottom line is that we lost and got no points.

This 2-1 defeat, while an expected result, is a little tough to take because of how Genoa scored, combined with some of our own bad luck and stupidity.

Both teams came in with confidence and it was clear this was going to be a tense match, especially on our side as we really want to show that we are better then a relegation level team. This was the match to do it as it is against a better side, but not a top side. Its games like this we have to show something if we are going to gain respect.

Papastapolous goal for Genoa is minute 25 was offside. Total garbage. However it set the tone for the match. After the break Thiago scored for Genoa in minute 55 off a ricochet from another shot giving Marchetti no real chance. More garbage in my opinion.

Conti sent a nice screamer from 30 yards that should have gone in but it hit the inside of the post and came back. We did get one back in minute 66 when Finis free kick found Bianco for an easy finish. One good thing from this match is that we seem to be showing some other players besides Acquafresca can score or create chances. Fini has really improved but still lacks discipline sometimes. This is important as we will need to get goals elsewhere to have semi regular success.

All momentum was lost as the result of Finis foul in minute 76 causing him to be redcarded. The lack of discipline really showed there, but it was the final act in a game where Lopez mixed it up with Milito and many plays seemed to be ready for some further confrontation. Genoa should be thankful to escape with a win.

Cagliari played well and should be proud, but we still lost. You can say we were unlucky and Genoas goals werent that great, but that is soccer. With the quick turnaround against Bologna at home, we need to forget this game as we face another must win game at home against a relegation rival. Lately we seem to be handling those games well so there is no reason why we cant get a win this weekend.

And finally as an aside, although my posts are often very broad and I have not been able to do too much indepth posting on individual players etc, there are many Cagliari sites in Italian that provide great insight with a local flavor. For those of you who want to see sites about Cagliari that provide more information on the team, here are the ones I frequent most. Some are in Italian and all are worth checking out as it shows there are dedicated Cagliari fans all over the world.
