Goals Wanted
By: Jeremy | September 15th, 2009
Another game and another disappointment for Cagliari. While no one was expecting us to do anything in Florence, its still frustrating to see your team do nothing offensively knowing that the more Fiorentina contiuned to pound our goal, the inevitable goal would come. While a 1-0 defeat as the result of Gilardinos nice header in the 55th minute is not the end of the world, it is just another reminder that something is wrong that needs to be fixed quickly because we cannot expect another miracle turn around.
I do not get why Larrivey continues to play. Again he was paired with Jeda while Nene was left to rot on the bench until the 83rd minute. I am not sure what is wrong with this guy as he was not brought in for relatively big bucks to sit. I know he needs time to adjust to a new league, but he wont adjust sitting around. Is he out of shape? Does Allegri not like him? Injured? We need an answer.
The new players like Dessena are also getting worked in and it is going to take the team time to come together as a unit, but we arent the only team with new players so that cannot be an excuse. We need to see a Nene Jeda strike force and quickly with a healthy Ragatzu the first guy off the bench. With our depth in midfield, Larrivey and Matri should never see the field. Not sure what Allegri is doing.
Things do not get better this weekend as Inter comes to town. Yeah they are focused on the Champions League this week and we might see a lot of first team players rested this weekend, but does anyone think we can do better then a 0-0 draw even at home. Maybe this game will be last years Milan game.
While it looks like we will be in the relegation battle again, it seems like there are some teams that are clearly a notch below the rest of the league so even with this bad start all is not lost. Catania is in dissarray and Atalanta seems to be similar to us. Livorno, Bari, and Bologna should always be in sight, but at some point we need to score some goals or it wont matter. For all the injuries we are suffering in defense ie Lopez and Pisano, I am still worried about the offense and the decisions made regarding playing time.
Lets hope things pick up quickly and we get a couple of wins here soon. This weekend will likely only cause further frustration, but the focus needs to be on putting together a run of points against mid and bottom level teams. Repeats of our play against teams like Siena cannot happen.
