Season Over..Foggia to be Transferred?
By: Jeremy | January 21st, 2008Another typical Cagliari performance against Reggina this weekend. Even when your goal is to not finish in the bottom three, you can only have bad performances for so long before you arent even close in the standings to your fellow relegation candidates.
When you are so afraid to lose and know you have no confidence in your offense, you can only pack the backline for so long before the other team scores. Whether its Roma or a bottom team like Reggina, these teams see week in and week out that Cagliari poses no offensive threat so they methodically look for that goal that puts them ahead and destroys what little spirit and hope Cagliari has for that particular game. This week it was Regginas turn. You all know how it turns out.
Now that Cagliari has lost sight of their fellow relegation strugglers, moves will probably be made to dump Foggia and anyone else of value that can bring in some young talent who hopefully have Serie A talent potential that will show in a couple years. Why didnt Foggia play yesterday in the most important game of the season? Is he injured? If he is, I am not aware. I think there are negotiations to get him to Napoli or an even bigger club in exchange for some young talent. Now that we have failed against Udinese and Reggina, whatever thought of keeping him to help avoid relegation is now gone. Whether they can get some good talent in exchange, who knows, but why not as Foggia wont be here after this year. Its like trading a big time free agent in baseball for some minor league talent you hope will be ready to make a difference in a couple of years when you are ready to contend.
As a fan, you hate to see your team implode after what was a good start to the season. I emailed the team President immediately after Giampaolo was fired and blasted the teams lack of insight and surprisingly he wrote back to me and was surprisingly happy there were Cagliari fans in the USA and second to thank me for my support and to let me know they knew what they were doing. The coaching carousel while not ideal is really just an excuse for a team that simply lacks the talent to compete in Serie A. Instead of spending money on the necessary talent after Suazos departure, they just brought in players who clearly werent Serie A talent. Being a small club, you simply cannot do that if you want to maintain Serie A status in what has become a more competitive league.
With half the season left and four or five teams only seven or so points away, you would think it is too early to give up, but reality makes optimism tough. Lets just watch week to week and now that the team has failed with the pressure on, a more relaxed atmosphere might allow for a few surprises. These types of situations are tough for supporters, but I am used to it whether it is with Cagliari or Mallorca in La Liga. I knew the luck was due to run out eventually as these clubs have dodged relegation for too long.
Till next time….

Wow Cellino actually answered your e-mail?
I like Calgiari, but it looks like they will be going down. But maybe it’s for the best. They go to Serie B, play some promising young players like Enrico Cotza, Marco Mancosu, and Daniele Ragatzu, and then get promoted again and start a new adventure in Serie A.

That’s incredible that he answered your email, esp since you were ripping him, and the team was already in the toilet — at least he’s getting something right.
Napoli even at home (in front of eight people) will be hard as hell, but maybe they’ll be trying to do too much, after the president/coach war this week? Maybe?
Interesting about Foggia, I hadn’t realized he didn’t play. Any thoughts on where he might end up?

[...] out so people outside Naples can watch their damn matches. Palermo - Siena 2-3 (Palermo report) Reggina - Cagliari 2-0: I hope CagliariJeremy doesn’t kill himself. Roma - Catania 2-0 Udinese - Milan [...]

Sorry to clarify…I emailed Cellino and I got a response from the Sporting Director who relayed Cellinos responses to my concerns and to thank me for my support. The response was not directly from Cellino himself. I was surprised I got a response, but it wasnt the first time I emailed him so they probably had been sick of hearing from me.

I think before the transfer window ends we’ll see a trade between Lazio and Palermo.
Lazio will send Foggia to Palermo, who will send Caracciolo to Lazio in return.
Palermo get a dynamic winger, Lazio get the target man striker they need.

I see it going the same way. But Caracciolo a target man? That’s like calling Fernando Couto subtle.

Wh would anyone want Caracciolo? Are Lazio becoming in the Knicks of Serie A?

Quite simply, Lazio owner Claudio Lotito is cheap. All the players he gets are either on a free transfer or really old and cheap. And then he complains that the team isn’t getting results.

the thing that brings a smile to my face is the continual comments about Caracciolo being something of value. the fact that there are teams out there willing to give up more than their belly button lint simply baffles me.
hahaha
FORZA PALERMO! Bring us Foggia!

Hand over Foggia. He’s tired of playing with your shit team.

Ah, you can see the repressed anger we have down in Sicily this season?
