Wow!

By: Jeremy | January 28th, 2008

Ive seen some football matches in my life that have produced sudden comebacks or reversals in momentum and Sundays game with Napoli will now be added to that list. One of the last things I expected was a team who couldnt put the ball in the net all year and was in free fall to Serie B to score two goals in stoppage time and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. These are the kinds of games that get coaches fired and players benched. As much pain as I suffer as a Cagliari fan, I couldnt imagine being a Napoli fan right now.

Where did this come from? This game was a typical Cagliari match. They had no real offensive threats throughout the match, were more concerned about giving up goals then trying to score, and found themselves down a goal just waiting for the ref to blow the whistle ending the game. But out of nowhere comes two goals and that causes the home crowd to go nuts.

Yes its just one win and there is still a lot of work to be done to stay in Serie A, but some very important lessons can be learned from this game. For all the turmoil surrounding the club this year, even though it would have been easy for them to give up yet another game, they continued to fight. They did not quit and their hardwork was rewarded. Let this be a lesson to all of us who participate in anything. Dont ever quit. It was also good to see the fans show so much support and enthusiasm. Wins like this can really turn a season around. Attitudes can change and in a tight league, having a good mentality about your objectives can often make a difference.

They never should have won this game, but Ill take it. Remember however that they won their opener against Napoli and that surprise caused them to play great against Juventus and although they suffered a loss, the team was still in great spirits. Somehow the wheels fell off from there. Its going to take a lot more then this win to turn things around but sometimes you need these kinds of games to show everyone that you still care and your hearts are in the game.

I dont expect a win against Juventus next week, but maybe this can be the game that gets them going and will allow for some wins against some lower table teams that they couldnt beat in the first half of the season.

Either way, this is one happy fan and I hope the players are enjoying themselves as they deserve some positive things as it has been a long frustrating season.

one more important thing to learn from this…

Foggia will not be transferred to Palermo. (MANAGGIA!!!) Well, at least the probability of that happening is very, very, very slim…

    Incredible comeback though!

Why isn’t Foggia in the starting XI? The game was completely different as soon as he got in. Are they still peeved about the fight he had with his team mates?

i think cagliari desrved the victory and the two goals
were the results of a forceful assault to the napolitan
area di rigore and two traverse.Foggia wasn’t in perfect shape and played in the second half..he’s definetely a
    titolare.
