Stuff White People Like-Soccer
By: Jeremy | March 20th, 2008Not sure if this is on topic when it comes to the Offside, but I thought I would share it.
I am pretty white but was somewhat offended by this topic and the narrowmindedness of idiots who run this website who dont follow soccer and think everyone who knows as little as they do pretends to like soccer for no reason or because they want to look hip and cool to their suburban neighbors.
We all have a story as to why we like the teams we do and my guess is that in most cases we like our teams more and know more about them then the bandwagon jumpers of other sports who like the Patriots, Duke Basketball, or the Yankees when it is convenient. Soccer fans are pretty loyal to their team and can spot a bandwagon jumper a lot easier then the fans of most American sports.
Have a look and share your thoughts.

Jeremy - the website you mentioned is intended as a joke. it’s not supposed to be taken seriously…
nonetheless, i agree that soccer fans tend to generally stick to the same team rather than float around…

just curious - do you object most because it’s racially based, or because it assumes soccer fans are not authentic?
there is actually a whole slew of these sites, stuff educated black people like, etc.

I live in SF, which is full of the exact demographic the site spoofs.
Thanks, Jeremy:
You’ve sent me there, which has spun off into
“Stuff Asians Like: #12 Basketball”
“Stuff Educated Black People Like: #16 Moving to Atlanta” (used to live in ATL)I love satire, and the people who get bent out of shape about it. Anyway, best of luck to Cagliari!

I understand its satirical but its seems serious too. I think it misunderstands soccer fans of all colors but it is geared to make fun of the suburban white guy.
I just thought it was worth sharing as people of all colors should be able to laugh at themselves, but the soccer part of the post to me was not funny and showed a lack of understanding of people who like soccer. Some of the other categories are true. They just got the soccer one wrong in my opinion.
